Coming to the Language Talk at the English Park – UEH English Zone for the second time, Guest Speaker – Mr. Clay Wilkins – brought useful advice and sharing as well as listened to the confidences and answered the questions of the students. The program helped the students gain more practical knowledge about communication skills, how to express language clearly and professionally while still maintaining respect for the other person.

Accordingly, the teacher shared: “Confidence is the key when communicating. Don’t be afraid of making mistakes, because no one expects you to speak perfect English except yourself”. The most important thing in any form of communication is to convey the message to the listener, so don’t focus too much on using complex vocabulary or flowery sentences.
At the same time, the teacher also emphasized the importance of using English correctly and appropriately in professional situations in the working environment. Some phrases such as: “think potentially”, “clarify”, “perhaps”,… can be used to help the sentence become softer and more receptive. In addition, the teacher shared a small tip to express disagreement without causing conflict or tension: start with a compliment before disagreeing. Show respect by acknowledging the other person’s point of view, then present the reason for your disagreement.
With humorous, practical examples and a close communication style, Mr. Clay helped students have the opportunity to directly try out the application of the above “small but powerful” tips to help the sentence become more formal in many specific contexts.
