Keynote speakers at the International Scientific Conference “Resilience by Technology and Design”

RTD 2024 will take place over 4 days from July 15-18, 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City (UEH – Campus B, 279 Nguyen Tri Phuong) and in the Mekong Delta (UEH – Vinh Long Branch) co-hosted by UEH School of Technology and Design and UEH – Vinh Long Branch.

RTD 2024 promises to be an ideal place for academic exchanges and sharing related to promoting sustainability through technology and design. The conference program includes a series of activities with keynote speeches, special sessions and parallel sessions.

Let’s take a look at the Keynote Speakers of RTD 2024:

Mr. Sangwoo Park – Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport of the Republic of Korea (MOLIT).

Dr. Sangwoo Park, born in 1961 in Busan, South Korea, is currently the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT). He holds a PhD in Urban Planning from Gachon University. With extensive experience in urban planning and development, he has contributed to shaping many important policies and strategies for Korea. At the RTD 2024 Conference, Mr. Sangwoo Park will share a keynote speech on the topic “Smart City Strategy of Korea”. The presentation will provide new perspectives on smart urban construction, with many innovative initiatives in city transport infrastructure.

Professor Alvaro Manuel Mendes Barbosa – Saint Joseph University, Macao

Alvaro Barbosa is Vice President and Professor at Saint Joseph University, Macao. He has over 20 years of experience and a rich academic background in the fields of Engineering, Arts and Computer Science. In particular, he has achieved many outstanding achievements in the fields of Music Experimental Networks and Interactive Sound System Design during his Postdoctoral Research at Stanford University (USA) in 2010. At the RTD 2024 Conference, Professor Alvaro Barbosa will present on the topic “Benchmarking Sustainability: Neurosciences and AI Tech Research in Macau”. Professor Wei-Chih Lin- National Sun Yat-sen University, Taiwan

RTD 2024 is honored to have the participation of Professor Wei-Chih Lin from National Sun Yat-sen University, Taiwan, a leading expert in the field of mechanical and electromechanical engineering. He is a PhD from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Cambridge. He holds more than thirty patents and has published more than fifty scientific papers, focusing on areas such as mechatronics design, human-machine systems, assistive devices, sensors and bioengineering.

In his keynote speech at the RTD 2024 conference, Professor Wei-Chih Lin will present “Smart Agricultural Robots Transforming the Current and Future of Farming”.

Professor Wim Vanhaverbeke – University of Antwerp, Belgium

Professor Wim Vanhaverbeke is currently the Academic Director of the Master of Management Program at Antwerp School of Management, Belgium. With an illustrious career in the field of technology and innovation management, he was honored by the International Association for the Management of Technology (IAMOT) as one of the top 50 researchers in the period 2008-2012. From April 2018 to March 2021, he was also a member of the Advisory Committee of the Center for Technology Innovation Research at Tsinghua University.

At the conference, Professor Vanhaverbeke will present the topic “Lack of Understanding of the Innovation Ecosystem Is Leading to Slow Adoption of Digital Technology Applications: Examples from Digital Healthcare and Precision Agriculture”.

Professor Kelly Shannon and Professor Bruno De Meulder – KU Leuven, Belgium

Professor Kelly Shannon and Professor Bruno De Meulder from KU Leuven, Belgium will be the keynote speakers at the RTD 2024 conference. Professor Shannon, currently Director of the Master of Human Settlements and the Master of Urbanism, Landscape and Planning programmes, together with Professor De Meulder, Coordinator of the Master of Human Settlements and the Master of Urbanism, Landscape and Planning programmes, will deliver a promising presentation on the topic “A Socio-Ecological Turn for the Mekong Delta: Accentuating Indigenous Logics”. In this presentation, participants will explore how ecological and social principles can be applied to sustainable development for the Mekong Delta, while highlighting the role of indigenous logics in urban and landscape design.
