The panorama of Bac Phuoc Thang area, an important gateway to Vung Tau City, was chosen as the topic for this year’s international competition.
The competition was chaired by the Institute of Smart Cities and Management under the University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City, in coordination with the People’s Committee of Vung Tau City and leading experts in the field of urban planning.
Thereby, it attracted the participation of nearly 400 students from more than 30 countries around the world and Vietnam.

The topic was proposed by Vung Tau City for candidates to research and propose planning solutions for the Bac Phuoc Thang area of the coastal city. This is a place with a unique mangrove ecosystem and is being oriented to develop into a model ecological urban area of Vung Tau.
The Bac Phuoc Thang area also possesses a mangrove ecosystem, unique natural landscapes, and is located right on the route connecting to key areas such as Ho Chi Minh City, Vung Tau City Center, Ba Ria City and Long Hai Town.
According to the Organizing Committee, with this very realistic topic, the contestants have had more than 7 months to prepare, research and come up with ideas for integrated design solutions, space organization, technology, etc., while ensuring culture, globalization, adaptability and especially the vision of a sustainable urban environment in the future.
The contest was launched, announced the topic and accepted registrations from April 2023. After the stages of evaluation and voting by professors and leading experts, 3 final prizes, the Most Favorite Entry Award and the Sponsor’s Choice Award along with the 10 best proposals were presented.
After the preliminary round and strict scoring by the International Jury, the 15 best entries will be displayed at this exhibition.
The entries have received high praise from the judges through the application of unique planning strategies and innovative designs to test new urban planning directions, capable of promoting carbon neutrality.
These solutions are expressed in a variety of aspects of an urban area such as architecture, infrastructure, transportation, landscape, … harmoniously combining theory and practice to provide a suitable and sustainable development direction for Vung Tau City.
