UNIVERSITY ENROLLMENT 2024: “Prestigious training address” and “Don’t follow the crowd” – 02 important factors to keep in mind when choosing new majors

With a multidisciplinary, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach, the knowledge of a major at UEH is designed to intersect in the interaction of that field with many different fields, especially the fields of Technology and Applied Design. In addition, there is a dynamic learning and training environment, creating conditions for self-development. After graduation, students can work in many different fields/groups of fields and have the ability to quickly adapt to careers in a variety of fields instead of being limited to a certain profession. In 2024, UEH will officially enroll in special majors, continuing to develop human resource training in a multidisciplinary, multi-field, and Applied Technology direction.

In Ho Chi Minh City (School code KSA), UEH enrolls in new training programs including: ArtTech and Intelligent Control and Automation Engineering.

At UEH – Vinh Long Branch (School Code KSV), UEH continues to enroll students in training programs including: Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Engineering and Technology and Innovation.

These are predicted to be the leading trends in the current digital age, bringing open career opportunities after graduation for the Gen Z generation.

However, choosing new majors has “two sides”: Opportunities and Challenges. Therefore, in order to help candidates understand and have an overview, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Khac Quoc Bao – Deputy Director of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics (UEH) has shared practical information about 04 factors to keep in mind when choosing a new major.

1. Trainers and employers always support students who are up-to-date and take the lead in choosing new majors

When universities, especially large universities, open new majors, it proves that this is a trending field, the labor market really needs and is necessary for the development of the socio-economic situation. Choosing new majors shows the pioneering spirit of the pioneers, and often takes advantage of new opportunities. That is to keep up with social needs, in the confidence in the learning process, research capacity, training in new content, new knowledge, new technologies and techniques. Graduating from new majors, students have the opportunity to become valuable human resources, serving the economic development process, especially graduating with honors from “top” schools will be sought after by companies and organizations. “Dare to choose” a new major shows the learner’s awareness and dynamism, which is a quality that trainers and employers are looking for.

2. Choosing a new major: Consideration between social trends and personal qualities

When choosing a new major, students always have to ask themselves: are their qualities and characteristics suitable for the new profession or not, or do their academic ability, qualities, and talents meet the requirements to be able to study well in the new major or not? Second, we have to ask ourselves “Do I love that profession or not?”, or just follow the crowd, the trend of friends of the same age.

To solve this problem, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics. Ho Chi Minh City has researched from scientific works related to psychology, career orientation, and career guidance, thereby launching the “Understanding You” tool – a personality test page that helps students know what they love, what careers are suitable for them, and which reputable addresses in Vietnam are teaching and providing training programs for those careers.

3. Choose a new major at a university with a reputation for quality training, prestige, and recognition domestically and internationally

In addition to choosing the right major that suits your abilities and interests, you need to pay attention to choosing a training address. Whether you study a good major, successfully or not, depends a lot on the quality of the training program of the chosen school. It must be a university with a reputation, prestige, a long history and well-planned, elaborate investments in equipment and a good learning environment for students, in addition to secondary but extremely important factors such as university space, team activities, union movements, learning environment, etc.

4. New majors do not have historical data on benchmark scores for reference

Every year, to choose a major or school, students often look at historical data to refer to benchmark scores, based on which they can determine whether they can get in or not. However, for new majors, there is not much historical data, so it is necessary to consider carefully to be able to get into the major they want at the most prestigious addresses possible.

UEH wishes the 2k6 candidates to have suitable major choices for themselves, confidently develop their abilities and become valuable human resources in the future labor market.
